Fall

There's something really magical about Fall that I only started liking in the most recent years of my life. As a kid, I never liked puffy down jackets, and I hated wind-breakers even more. It ushered in the school year (up in Michigan, Fall pretty much came with September whether you wanted it or not). The world became dreary, but it wasn't quite enough for snow.

Fall was purgatory and a foreboding reminder of the year to come.

These days, it's an excuse to look my best. I like sweaters. I like my stereotypically pretentious academic jacket. I like things that make me look warm and inviting, because it's really hard for me to look like that in the Summer. Mostly because I think tee-shirts are hideous more often than not.
(I know, I know- to anyone who's close to me, the idea of me being warm and/or inviting is kind of hilarious...)

Fall is also an excellent reminder of nature's power. In a growing age of man's god complex, I enjoy watching storms and heavy rain and thinking to myself that if nature had a true will or consciousness, it could easily wipe out humanity in an extremely short amount of time.

Fall ushers in a time of cuddling and bundling and a fierce determination to fight the cold. And, of course, Fall is also the first bearer of snow. Although if our climate keeps wonking the way it did last year, we may see nothing but grass this time around...

Fall is for soups and pumpkins and celebrations. Sweaters and blankets and fireplaces.

It just... is kinda' nice, you know?

But seriously... I'm cold. Let's fast forward to Spring.

  1. 'I like my stereotypically pretentious academic jacket'- LOVE this quote. I may have a closet FULL of jackets....
And I agree. Though the vibrant colors and muted skies have a certain charm... I'd go for some spring too :)

  2. "Nothing substantive"... mmm, nope. Nice, warm, thoughtful, fuzzy-feeling substance here!

I love fall, and I definitely agree with the season for cuddling! :D
